Stable procurement of high-quality raw materials
PPC is the largest buyer of Copper Concentrate in the world, and the resultant
economies of scale of procuring approximately 1.7 million tons of Concentrate enable
us to secure stable supplies of high-quality Copper Concentrate from around the world.
The principal sources of supply include Los Pelambres Mine, Collahuasi Mine and
Escondida Mine, the world’s largest mine, all in Chile, and Cadia Hill & Ridgeway Mines
in Australia; NMM and MMS have already been providing investment and financing for
these mines. These investments enable PPC to obtain long-term supplies of Copper
Concentrate to satisfy its raw-material requirements. Additionally, through joint procurement with LS-Nikko Copper, the entire Group is conducting the efficient procurement of raw materials.
Cultivation of new sources of raw materials
PPC also devotes efforts to the development of new sources of raw materials.
In 2004, PPC concluded a loan and concentrate purchase agreement with Philex Mining Corporation of the Philippines, its first finance-related offtake transaction.
In 2006, PPC acquired controlling interest in the Caserones Copper and Molybdenum Deposit development project in Chile, where we are presently building production facilities.
In 2008, PPC acquired controlling interest in the Quechua Copper Deposit development project in Peru. We are currently conducting feasibility studies on future development plans.
PPC will continue its efforts to ensure the stable supply of raw materials, by engaging aggressively in investment and financing activities for the most promising mines and new mine development projects globally.
