Refined Copper
Production of high-quality copper through tolling production
In addition to producing electrolytic copper at Saganoseki Smelter & Refinery and Hitachi Works, we have also outsourced these operations to our subsidiary Hibi Kyodo Smelting Co., Ltd. Altogether we have three production bases, Saganoseki Smelter and Hitachi Works, and Tamano Smelter of Hibi Kyodo. Each of these smelters boasts advanced technical capabilities, cost competitiveness and productivity that are ranked in the top level of the global smelting industry, and each satisfies the most rigorous domestic environmental standards. Aggregate production capacity of Refined Copper totals 710 thousand tons per year (Saganoseki and Hitachi 450 thousand tons, and Tamano 260 thousand tons), which is the largest in Japan and also one of the largest in the world. What is more, the output has gained an excellent reputation in the market for product quality.
Precious Metals, Sulphuric Acid, and Other Products
Efficient recovery of a multiplicity of by-products
Precious Metals (Gold, Silver, Platinum and Palladium) and other by-products (Sulphuric
Acid, Nickel Sulfate and Crude Nickel Sulfate, Selenium, Tellurium, Copper Sulfate etc.)
produced during the copper-production process are recovered efficiently, similarly to
copper, and supplied to the market as industrial materials of various kinds.

Copper Cake and Billet, and Wire Rod
PPC also produces Copper Cake and Billet and Wire Rod as intermediate materials
for rolled copper products and electric wire and cable. These products are manufactured
through two affiliates: Japan Copper Casting Co., Ltd. (65% owned) and Hitachi
Wire Rod Co., Ltd. (20% owned).
Through its continuous-casting facilities with annual production capacity of 84
thousand tons, Japan Copper Casting manufactures a wide variety of high-quality
Copper Cake and Billet, such as Tough Pitch Copper, Phosphorus Deoxidized Copper,
and Oxygen-Free High-Conductivity Copper. Hitachi Wire Rod produces Copper Wire
Rod and supplies them to the domestic electric wire and cable manufacturers.
