Pan Pacific Copper expanding its sphere of operations
from Japan to Asia and the whole world
Jointly established by JX Nippon Mining & Metals Co., Ltd. (NMM) and Mitsui Mining & Smelting (MMS), Pan Pacific Copper (PPC) began operations in January 2001.
From its inception, the Company has engaged in the procurement of copper concentrate, production through tolling arrangements for both parent companies, and the marketing of products manufactured by the two companies. In April 2006, PPC took over all the production operations of NMM and MMS. PPC has thus evolved into an integrated copper enterprise handling all operations from start to finish, including the development and procurement of overseas copper resources, the production of refined copper and related products, and their marketing in Japan and other countries.
In addition, it forms a copper smelter group that is highly competitive in international markets through collaboration with LS-Nikko Copper Inc., a three-way joint-venture copper smelting company set up by NMM, MMS and South Korea’s LS Group. Thanks to this relationship, PPC has firmly established itself as the leading copper producer in Asia.
Demand for copper is increasing rapidly in tandem with economic development in the East Asian region, particularly in China, and this trend is set to continue. PPC is committed, by taking maximum advantage of its Group smelting and refining facilities in Japan and Korea, to maintaining stable supplies to the Asian market.
Meanwhile, copper resources are unevenly distributed in particular areas, such as South America, and in consequence we must step up the development of resources in order to meet the further increase in demand in the future. Through close collaboration with its parent companies — NMM, and MMS - PPC will work vigorously to secure resources through the development of new copper mines and make further rapid strides forward as an international integrated copper producer with a geographically broad production line.
